This institution was founded by the honorable George Swinburne in 1908 and achieved university status in June 1992. On 1 July 1992, Swinburne was proclaimed a university and its first chancellor was self-made businessman and philanthropist, Richard Pratt. Now, the chancellor is Bill Scales AO and vice-chancellor is Professor Ian Young. The 2011 Good Universities Guide has rated Swinburne as the best university in Melbourne for teaching quality for past five years (2007–2011). It has six campuses. There are Hawthorn, Prahran, Lilydale, Croydon, Wantirna, and Sarawak. The five campuses are located in Australia, and the last one in Malaysia. Swinburne University of Technology has six faculties. Till now, Swinburne University of Technology has more than 40.000 students who studies in six campuses. A lot of alumni graduated from this university.
